The Happiness Project :: A weekend away with the girls.

I spent the weekend playing in a house
in the mountains with some of my girlfriends.

No Kids.
No husbands.
No plans,
except to relax.

We saw beautiful sunrises.

Ate yummy food...

and sat around and read trash magazines.

You really can't beat time spent with good friends.

The Happiness Project :: Decking the halls

Last night we pulled all the Christmas decorations
out from the attic, put on a little holiday music, and
decked the halls over at our house.

It's always so exciting
and fun to help daddy put the tree up.

The boys nearly came to fistycuffs
about who would put the first ornament on the tree.
So, I counted to 3 and they simultaneously
hung their ornaments.

Will we ever be out of this competitive phase?

In the end,
we had a great time
dancing around to the music
and remembering each ornament.
Koen kept insisting that
he made ornaments that
obviously came from a store.
That's another phase were going through,
telling tall tales.
Which is super cute
but not a good habit to get in.
I love having a 5-year-old
in the family.

I adore our Christmas tree
and the memories we made
putting it up together.

The Happiness Project :: Thanksgiving-ness

I just love all things Thanksgiving...
the fall colors, the feeling of gratitude, the turkey.
I finally took down the Halloween decorations
and tossed up our Thanksgiving mantel.

It feels all warm and cozy.

Then last week, Koen played the part
of the King of England in his
Kindergarten Thanksgiving production.

He totally nailed his lines!
I just live for school productions.
They really are the sweetest.

I'm realizing more and more
that I have so much to be grateful for in this
wonderful little life of mine.

The Happiness Project :: Backpack Bear

Koen's class has the sweetest tradition.
Each weekend, a different child takes "Backpack Bear"
home with them and makes a photo journal
of their time together.

So, Backpack Bear spent some time with us
and here are the highlights.

Friday night was cold so Backpack Bear got
quite toasty with Koen by the fireplace.

Later that night, Koen read
his very favorite Curious George book
to Backpack Bear before they snuggled down to bed.

They spent Saturday night at
Koen's Grandparent's house.
They cuddled on the couch
and watched the UGA football game with Poppy.

Sunday afternoon
was spent running errands around town.
Backpack Bear took a trip
to Lowes to get some supplies
to help his Daddy with a project.

Then they came home and drank hot chocolate.
We loved our weekend with Backpack Bear.

The Happiness Project :: Happy Birthday to me!!

{Turn around bright eyes. Every now and then I fall apart!}

So...I turned 40 over the weekend
and I celebrated with a drunken
night of Karaoke madness with my friends.

It was SOOOO fun!
Being 40 is awesome so far!

The Happiness Project :: Halloween hay bales

Something exciting pops up in our little town
every year during the month of October.
Down a long stretch of country road,
hay bales are lined up and decorated for Halloween
by the agriculture students at UGA.

The boys flip out over them every single year.
We pass by them on our drive to school
and they celebrate each one as we pass by.

The morning fog seems to add
to the ambiance of it all.

I just love this tradition
and how happy it makes my children.

The Happiness Project :: Decking the halls with poison ivy

The other day I was talking to
my best friend on the phone,
feeling angsty about something or other
and she basically told me
that I needed to focus on my holiday mantel.

That's what best friends are for, right?
A little redirection and refocusing can be good for a girl.
So I did just that and it totally distracted me
from worrying about things that are out of my control!

I'm currently OBSESSED with
the new Dollar General store up the road a ways.
They have THE BEST seasonal items
for super duper cheap.

Two of the ladies that work behind the register
know me by name now, y'all
because I stop by so much
to buy that one little item I had walked away from.

I mean, most of it costs $1.50!

The whole thing makes me happy.

So, there you have it...
my Halloween mantel in all of it's spooky glory.
